Keeping Balance Goals are:
- To incorporate Aboriginal Teachings into the youth's experience so that they can fulfill their dreams & achieve their goals.
- To provide a safe supervised environment for youth to participate in after school activities.
- To facilitate the youth's discovery of their personal gifts, strengths, and talents.
- To build self-esteem and pride.
- To promote the realization that the youth's contributions are valuable.
- To enable the youth to become a proud member of the community.
- To promote identity and self-confidence so that the youth will gain the desire to complete their education.
Keeping Balance Requirements are:
- You attend school in the Seven Oaks School Division.
- You are willing to participate in, or learn about activities such as: the Seven Sacred Teachings, the Medicine Wheel Teachings, Smudging, Clan System, Feasts, Naming Ceremonies, Pipe Ceremonies, Sweatlodge Teachings & Ceremonies.
- You are willing to attend presentations from a variety of organizations.
Participation: The permission slip must be completed and returned for a student to participate. Please note: Parents are welcome to participate in many of the activities with their child(ren). Click here for registration and permission slip information.
Transportation: Transportation to and from after school programming is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. We will provide public or divisional transportation to planned activities within the program.
Data Collection: Participants are requested to complete a survey upon their first visit. They do not need to provide any personal information. This is to collect information for Heritage Canada who is our program sponsor.
Activities: A general permission slip will be required to be completed so that students can attend activities outside the school & have permission to ride public transit. Some field trips will extend past 6:30pm. Click here for a copy of the Public Transit Permission Form.
Waivers: A general permission slip will be required to be completed re: photos/media/etc.
Snacks: Students will be provided snacks unless otherwise indicated.
