On Tuesday, May 4TH, as part of Seven Oaks Middle School’s “Unite to change” group I had the wonderful opportunity of going to the Manitoba Legislature with my teacher, Ms.Waskul, and Andrew Provenski to celebrate “Manitoba Youth Week”. “Manitoba Youth Week” was from May 1ST to May 7Th and it is put on to recognize and celebrate youth and their active participation in their communities. We had a great time! It was amazing to meet Premier Greg Selinger. We also got to meet Mr. Gord Mackintosh [the MLA for St. Johns], we talked to him for quite a while and he even sat with us. Almost all the MLA’s were there and were mingling with the students. Mr. Selinger did a speech about “Youth Week.” Premier Selinger explained to us that “Youth Week” is a special week where children are recognized for their leadership and accomplishments and how each of us are special individuals. We also had the great opportunity to listen to an amazing speech made by Kevin Chief where he shared his personal story on his leadership role with Winnipeg youth. He shared a few great words of wisdom with us. When the speeches were over, we took a group photo of everyone that was there. There were a lot of students from different schools in Manitoba; students even came from The Pas! There were also a lot of parents and teachers too. Then we took individual pictures with the Premier. After that, we explored the building. There were so many doors in that building, I don’t think it would be possible to count all of them! You don’t realize how big the building is until you are inside it. To be honest, I didn’t even know what the Legislature was until I went there for “Youth Week.” Overall, this was an opportunity I will never forget! Thank you Ms.Waskul for including me in this amazing experience!!!
