About MMYA  

    

The MMYA, in its constitution, recognizes that a developmentally responsive Middle Years School culture includes:

 

    The MMYA aims to foster and promote this culture in Manitoba schools through a collaborative association with the National Middle School Association and the Manitoba Teachers Society.

 

  MMYA Objectives  

1) To provide a voice that represents the unique needs of Middle Years students.
2) To provide a forum for professional dialogue and professional development among Middle Years educators.
3) To develop professional networks and to foster learning communities that support the sharing of resources, research, and general    ideas related to Middle years education.

 

 

  Organizational Structure  

Roles of Executive

The President
        a) presides at meetings of the executive
        b) presides at meetings of the general membership
        c) manages all business of the Association
        d) is an ex-officio member of all committees

The Vice President
        a) assumes the responsibilities of the president in the absence of the president
        b) assumes the responsibility for arranging general meetings and other programs as     directed by the executive
        c) is responsible for liaison with other organizations having similar aims

The Secretary
        a) records minutes for all executive and general meetings of the Association
        b) within two weeks (14 days) send copies of minutes of all meetings to executive members
        c) enters Annual General Meeting minutes and reports into archives
        d) enter revisions of Handbook and Constitution

The Treasurer
        a) keeps an accurate record of all finances
        b) is a signing officer
        c) prepares an audited annual financial statement and submit to the society by October 15th of each year
        d) pays accounts as directed by the executive
        e) collects assessments
        f) presents an accurate financial report at all meetings
        g) arranges for the purchase of courtesy recognition

The Membership Chairperson
a) solicits new memberships
b) issues membership cards or certificates
c) maintains an up-to-date mailing list of the membership
d) check that life memberships are still on the membership mailing list from MTS
e) receive information from MTS and input onto the database to update membership
f) once SAG is complete and registrations have been sent to MTS along with the cheques, the chairperson must fill out and send a light yellow registration form to MTS
g) makes available, for all Middle Years workshops & conferences, updated copies of our membership application form and brochure.

The Public Relation Chairperson; Communication
        a) assume responsibility for the preparation and distribution of the MMYA Journal
        b) is a SAG Council Representative

The Past President
        a) advises and recommends policy for MMYA
        b) brings recommendations of the organization to the attention of the executive
        c) chairs a nominating committee and presents a proposed slate of officers for the ensuing year to the general membership at the Annual General Meeting
        d) maintains MMYA Archives

PD Chairperson
        a) chairs the professional development committee responsible for SAG Conference and other MMYA sponsored workshops
        b) is a S.A.G. Conference representative
