Digital Photography
How to take, download and share your great images!
This four week course allows you to learn your digital camera, as well as the basics of downloading, emailing and manipulating images. This class is open to all makes and models of digital cameras and all adult age groups. Students are encouraged to ask questions, and have them answered. All students receive “hands on” instruction on their camera. Students are required to bring their digital camera, battery and memory card. You may register for individual classes or all four weeks.
Week 1 – Digital Camera Basics
Learn the basics of how to use your digital camera; learn where the batteries & memory card go; learn the concepts of MEGAPIXELS and COMPRESSION; learn Optical vs. Digital zoom; learn basic flash control settings; learn the PROPER way to TAKE, PLAYBACK AND ERASE images.
Week 2 – Getting out of Automatic
Learn what AUTOMATIC is; learn why AUTOMATIC is not always the best setting to use; learn the settings of PORTRAIT, LANDSCAPE, SPORTS, NIGHT PORTRAIT; learn the SCN MODES; learn the basics of CLOSE UP photography and how to achieve great results; learn about the MOVIE mode.
Week 3 – AUTOMATIC vs PROGRAM
Learn how to “over ride” your camera,
and tell it what you want to do; learn the features of ISO, Exposure Compensation, Metering and White Balance; learn how to over ride the camera to get the best results.
Week 4 – Save and Share
Learn a method for downloading images, quick and easily; learn the basics of emailing photos; avoid the common mistakes people make when emailing photos; learn basic image manipulation including Cropping, fixing Red Eye, and Color to BW.

Garden Design 101: Turn Your Back Yard into an "Urban Oasis"

That trip to the lake gets longer each year and the bungalow or condo you just downsized to is the perfect space to create something unique and nuturing. This course explains microclimates and how to best utilize your light and soil conditions, the basic design concepts of big or small, bright or shady, wet or dry conditions.

Climate changes; how to protect your perennial gardent, trees and shrubs from the uncertainty of new weather.
Vegetables, perennials and shrubs will thrive using only no-chemical fertilizers and soil amendments with as little supplemental water. You will install a community of plants that evolved together for thousands of years, putting Xeriscapting methods to work to maintain your prairie garden, making it a joint project with nature.
