As you would expect, the Reference Section of the MRC includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases and almanacs. But did you know that these include The Complete Dream Dictionary, a dictionary of english slang and a Mathematics dictionary. We have recently acquired the new Encyclopedia of Manitoba, published by Winnipeg's Great Plains Publishers. This book is a beautiful resource focusing on all things Manitoban.
In addition to the annual Canada and the World Almanacs, there is also a sports almanac. The Career Directory provides information about companies and workplaces in Canada, and describes the qualifications necessary for employment. There are atlases of Canada and the World as well as the Manitoba Atlas, historical atlases and an atlas of archaeology.
Not sure what some of those words mean in the latest Shakespeare assignment? Refer to Shakespeare's Words: A Glossary and Language Companion. There is also The Encyclopedia of Superstitions where you can find out why breaking a mirror is said to bring seven years of bad luck. If you want to find out what was going on in the world on a particular day in the past, check out One Hundred Years of News: the 20th Century Day by Day.
These are just a few examples of the many resources available in the reference section.
