To open an RESP, you will need:
- The Social Insurance Number (SIN), name and date of birth of your child(ren)
- The Parent/Guardian's SIN and contact information
If you do not yet have a Social Insurance Number for your child(ren), you will need to have a hard copy of their birth certificate. You can visit the
Manitoba Vital Statistics Branch to apply for a birth certificate.

here to apply online.
How to open an RESP and apply for the Canada Learning Bond and/or Canada Education Savings Grant:
1. Choose a financial institution and make an appointment to open a no-fee, no-contribution RESP. Be sure to bring your photo ID and the SINs for you and your child.
2. Ask to apply for the Canada Learning Bond and the Canada Education Savings Grant. The RESP provider will take care of the rest!
NOTE: Proof of Address is no longer required to apply for a Social Insurance Number.
