Seven Oaks School Division celebrated its second Unite to Change Conference at the Thunderbird House on October 19th, 2009. Representatives from all Seven Oaks Schools opened the day with a visit to the school board office and then a bus ride to Winnipeg's beautiful center piece, the Thunderbird House. After an opening prayer, drum song and Tai Chi session, over 120 participants enjoyed a morning of presentations around Aboriginal culture, sharing circles and the creation a new Seven Oaks tree with leaves depicting the sustainability efforts of youth and staff in all of our schools. The afternoon was spent in excursions to various city centre venues including the Graffiti Gallery, Siloam Mission, a walking tour of the exchange district and a tour of a landfill site. Early years students engaged with an Aboriginal artist to create a form of stone art as a momento of the day.
