It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our school trustee, Derek Dabee, on October 25, 2026, at the age of 75.

Derek served as Trustee for Ward 2 since 2010. He understood the true purpose of public education and gave himself fully to it. As a board member, he worked diligently to listen and learn, taking the time to understand the experiences of staff, students, and the community we serve.

He cared deeply about wellbeing for all, and that belief shaped his work and the way he treated people. Outside the boardroom, he was a devoted fan of tennis and pickleball, and he brought that same energy and good spirit wherever he went.

For more than a decade, his commitment strengthened our schools and the many lives connected to them. He will be greatly missed.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to work alongside him.

Rest in peace.
