Amy Carpenter

amy-carpenter.9609de19548.pngAmy Carpenter comes from a very large urban Métis family. Though Amy grew up predominantly in East Kildonan, Winnipeg, her family’s scrip could be found in what is now known as St. Norbert. From St. Norbert, her family rooting extended to St. Boniface and later St. Vital.

Amy is a long-time educator in Seven Oaks School Division. Over the years she has taught Grades 1 to 12, worked in Learning Support and School Administration. More recently Amy has had the opportunity to instruct university classes, including teaching within the Seven Oaks PBDE in Indigenous Knowledges. In addition to her new role as Mamàhtawisiwin Lead Teacher in Seven Oaks, Amy is completing her PhD studies. Amy’s PhD work includes bringing forward the stories of truths and actions, as shared by Elder Mary Courchene.

Though these pieces keep Amy’s schedule pulsing along, one of her greatest joys is slowing down to lap up moments watching her little boy disover his own Mamàhtawisiwin. From her years as an educator and the guidance that was fostered within her since childhood, Amy knows that her work as a Mom is to watch for, bring forward kindling, and nurture his gifts as they emerge.

Amy is so incredibly honoured and humbled to be doing this work alongside the phenomenal educational community in Seven Oaks School Division.
