Why Enrol in Summer School?

Summer school offers learners an opportunity to build on their strengths and develop new, positive learning habits.

In this focused environment, students can re-engage with material, deepen their understanding, and showcase the skills they are capable of mastering. With their commitment and effort, students experience meaningful success, strengthen their confidence, and return in the fall better equipped to thrive in their classes.

Eligibility:

Families don’t have to wait for final report cards before registering - this is not just credit attainment, its also about improving the quality of their understanding.

By early June, families should have a good sense of whether it is in their child's best interest to repeat a course at summer school. We recommend talking with your child’s teacher and school administration before registering.

Our summer program offers the "repeater course" which means that students have completed the entire course during the regular school year and achieved a final grade of 35% or greater in order to have success in the repeater course.

Our program gives students the opportunity to refresh/review the content and practice the main pieces of the course a second time to build those skills that will help them be successful at that next level.

Students attending a high school from outside the Seven Oaks School Division are required to provide the Summer School Office with an official transcript from their home school to verify that they have already taken the course (and again, achieved a minimum mark of 35% or greater) by June 26th for their registration to be accepted.

Attendance:

Due to the fast-paced schedule, attendance is critical in summer school. Consistent attendance helps students make the most of their learning and sets them up for success. Students who miss more than two classes (5 hours) will be withdrawn from the course.

Enrolling in Summer School is a commitment made between all parties

  • Teachers will be there each day to provide instruction, offer constructive feedback and guidance;
  • Students will arrive on time, prepared and ready to engage actively in learning by demonstrating a willingness to participate, interact with the material, and complete practice tasks.
  • Parents/guardians will provide the "in home" support to ensure that students are prepared to participate every day.
  • Teachers, students and parents/guardians will ensure that their communications are respectful as we work together towards a common goal.
  • Parents/guardians will be kept informed of attendance so we can work together to help each student stay on track and thrive.

Safe and Caring Schools:

The Seven Oaks School Division is committed to supporting students, staff, and the community by ensuring safe, respectful, and purposeful learning environments. Effective learning environments are established when everyone understands their roles and responsibilities as members of the Seven Oaks School Division. As such, Summer School student expectations are the same as those of students attending school at any other time of year. Students and families are encouraged to read about our Safe & Caring Schools at https://www.7oaks.org/safe-caring-schools.  Additional information from the Province around the Provincial Code of Conduct is also available on the website.

Course Cost:

  • $75/course for residents of Seven Oaks School Division
  • $300/course for students living outside of catchment
