On the evening of February 26th, our very own Dayna Trann received the EA OF THE YEAR Award at the Manitoba Council For Exceptional Children’s awards banquet. Dayna was recognized for her exceptional dedication and impact. For 15 years, Dayna has transformed learning at West Kildonan Collegiate through creativity and hands on support. Her Tuckie Duckie puppet and other imaginative tools help students build a variety of skills and self-confidence. Dayna’s calm, compassionate presence ensures every student feels understood and included. She uses visual aids, assistive technology, and individualized strategies to foster independence, while supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional growth. Dayna is a strong collaborator, working closely with teachers, administrators, and families. She inspires colleagues through professionalism, ingenuity, and unwavering commitment. There are numerous stories from staff and families which reflect her positive influence on student success, while her innovative interventions bring joy, motivation, and meaningful engagement to daily learning. Dayna’s leadership and care exemplify the very best of the Educational Assistant profession.
