Congratulations to Layla Waugh, a Grade 12 student at Maples Collegiate, on receiving the Black History Month Manitoba Youth Award. Layla has demonstrated exceptional leadership and dedication to Manitoba’s Black community through her sustained service, advocacy, and mentorship. As President of her school’s Black Student Union, she has created spaces of belonging, led meaningful conversations through “Let’s Talk Black” panels, and supported younger students with care and integrity. Her courage in sharing her lived experiences and her commitment to strengthening community both within her school and beyond reflect the heart of this award and the powerful impact of youth leadership in action.
