The West Kildonan Collegiate Material Resource Centre (MRC) contains thousands of items, including Non-fiction, Fiction, Reference, and Magazines. There are e-books and audiobooks accessible on computers and devices with a log-in provided by the school, as well as access to educational video sites. Staff have access to a Teaching Resource collection, including educational DVDs. The collection, both print and electronic, is continually growing. Each year new materials are purchased to keep the collection current. One of the goals of the library is to provide up-to-date resources and topical reading materials for students and staff.
Another goal of the MRC is to help students develop skills in information technology. In addition to the materials available in the library, there are also computers that provide students access to the internet. Knowing how to find relevant, accurate, and verified information is an essential skill for students today.
The MRC has a library technician to support student learning. They help students find information and resources for school projects, assignments and field other inquiries (reference questions), in addition to acquiring, cataloguing, and circulating the materials. They also guide student volunteers in library tasks that can contribute to helpful skills outside of school. The collection can be searched from the online catalogue from school or home.
Students and staff can sign out materials for 2 weeks at a time. These resources can be renewed as needed. Books from the Reference Section however must be used only in the library/MRC and cannot be signed out.
The MRC is located on the 2nd floor of West Kildonan Collegiate and is open Monday to Friday from 8:00-3:30 p.m.
