About

Exchange Met School is the third Met School in Seven Oaks School Division, opening in September 2021. Like Seven Oaks Met School and Maples Met School, we are a project-based and community-based learning school connected to the Big Picture Learning network. The Big Picture Learning approach prioritizes relationships, relevance, and rigor, while recognizing that meaningful learning can take many different paths.
Our home in Winnipeg’s Exchange District places us within a vibrant community of businesses, organizations, artists, entrepreneurs, and cultural spaces. Our learners engage with this community through experiential learning opportunities, including internships, mentorships, and divisional programs such as Tech Hub and MICE (Met Innovation Centre for Entrepreneurship).
How is Met different from other high schools?
What makes Met School different is our commitment to knowing each learner and supporting them in designing a learning path connected to their interests, strengths, and goals. Learners work alongside advisors to connect their interests to curriculum, projects, and community experiences. They spend two days each week learning alongside a community mentor. The path to graduation may look different for every learner, but the destination remains the same: we take a “one student at a time” approach to learning.
We are a school committed to community, to further developing our relationships, to taking steps forward in reconciliation, and to the pursuit of mino-pimatisiwin, the good life, for all learners. This is reflected in the learning experiences we create, the projects our learners undertake, and the ways they explore and share their gifts with the greater community.
