Music

At West St. Paul School, students in Grades 1–5 participate in many musical experiences such as learning to play the guitar, ukelele, choral singing, drumming and moving and responding to music. Through engaging, hands-on lessons, they explore rhythm, melody, harmony, and basic music theory while developing listening, ensemble, and performance skills. Students also learn about famous composers and musical styles from around the world, connecting music with culture and history. Our students learn how to sing in a group, exploring their vocal ranges and the different ways they can use their voices. They learn about good posture and deep breathing techniques, rehearsing how to present themselves in front of an audience in a respectful and engaging way. West St. Paul students perform at special school assemblies and concerts, and at divisional events like Arts in the Park.
