Maples Met at the Envirothon Provincials

School Stories |

This May, a team of students from Maples Met School traveled to the beautiful Whiteshell Provincial Park to participate in the 2026 Manitoba Envirothon Provincials. During their stay, students were hosted at the Tim Hortons Foundation Camp, where they spent several days immersed in environmental science, teamwork, and outdoor learning.

The Envirothon is a hands-on environmental education competition that challenges students to apply their knowledge in five key areas: forestry, wildlife, soils and land use, aquatic ecology, and a current environmental issue. Teams work together to solve real-world environmental problems and present their solutions to judges.

Throughout the event, Maples Met students engaged in field studies, identified plant and animal species, tested water quality, and learned from environmental professionals. The experience allowed students to strengthen their scientific knowledge while developing leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills. The trip was both educational and inspiring, leaving students with a deeper appreciation for Manitoba’s natural environment.
