Tech Hub
The Tech Hub Program at New Media Manitoba offers students an innovative, industry-connected learning experience grounded in creativity, collaboration, and cutting-edge technology. Designed as a hands-on internship opportunity, the program immerses learners in the dynamic world of game design and digital media while building strong technical and professional skills.
At the heart of the program is coding in Python, where students develop foundational and intermediate programming skills. Rather than learning theory in isolation, learners apply their knowledge directly to real-world projects—designing mechanics, building logic systems, and creating interactive gameplay experiences. This applied approach allows students to see immediate results from their coding, reinforcing both confidence and competence.
Students also work extensively in Unity, the industry-standard game engine used by professional developers worldwide. Through Unity, learners design interactive environments, program player interactions, and bring their original concepts to life. They gain experience with user interface design, physics systems, animation, and game testing, developing a comprehensive understanding of how digital products are built from concept to prototype.
A strong emphasis on digital illustration and visual storytelling complements the technical components of the program. Students design original characters, environments, and game assets, integrating art and technology in meaningful ways. This blend of coding and creative design reflects the interdisciplinary nature of today’s digital industries and encourages students to think both analytically and artistically.
The Met School version of the Tech Hub aligns deeply with the Met philosophy of real-world, project-based learning. Learners engage directly with industry experts from New Media Manitoba, collaborating in professional-style workflows. They participate in team-based design sprints, iterative prototyping, and constructive critique processes—mirroring the environments found in real game studios. Through this mentorship model, students gain insight into career pathways in game development, digital media, and technology innovation.
More than just a coding program, the Tech Hub emphasizes creativity, innovation, and problem-solving. Students build communication and teamwork skills while navigating authentic design challenges. By working with professional tools and industry mentors, they experience what it truly means to operate in a fast-growing digital field.
Tech Hub empowers learners to see themselves as creators, innovators, and future leaders in technology. Equipping them with the technical fluency and creative confidence needed in today’s evolving digital world.
