Learn to Skate

We are excited to welcome your child to the SOSD Learn to Skate program!  Ice skating has many health and wellness benefits…plus it’s a lot of fun!

Skating works nearly every muscle group in the body, and gliding requires synchronized movement of the legs, which is important for joint flexibility.

Skating strengthens the leg and abdominal muscles, in addition to improving cardiovascular health, body control, coordination and balance.

Physical activity in general is a great way to relieve stress, improve mental health and boost self-confidence.

Program Overview:

• Basic skating skills review and development including static & dynamic balance, pushing, gliding, turning, stopping and safety skills.

• The program consists of 9 or 10 lessons per classroom.

• Sessions take place at the Seven Oaks Arena.

• The program occurs during school hours and students will be bussed to and from the arena.  There is no fee for this program and registration is not required.

• Skates and helmets with cages are provided.  Students must bring their own gloves, as well as a toque or hoodie to wear under the helmet.

• Cages on helmets will be sanitized by the skating staff after each use.   • Students are encouraged to bring their own skates (stored safely) and helmets when possible.

• Parents are welcome to attend and may volunteer to tie skates.  Note that any photos taken must be of your child only and cannot include members of the public, arena staff or skate instructors.

Thank you for your support.
