Kindergarten Program

The kindergarten student spends 2 1/2 hours each day in the kindergarten class.  Kindergarten students in the Immersion program receive instruction in the French language.  The primary objective is to develop the children's oral fluency.  Initially the children may respond in English.  As the year proceeds, the children begin to acquire vocabulary and sentence structures.  As they gradually come to feel more comfortable, they start to communicate with their teacher and with their fellow students in French.

Individual and small group activities are organized in the Immersion kindergarten class.

Elementary Program

When your child has completed kindergarten, he or she will enter Grade 1 of the elementary program.  The elementary program in an immersion school follows, as much as possible, the Manitoba Curriculum for Elementary Schools.  The students spend 80% of their school day working in French.  The students have approximately one hour per day of English Language Arts instruction.  All other subjects, including Music and Physical Education, are taught in French.

Physical Education Program

All students are expected to participate in the school's Physical Education Program.  If, for some reason, your doctor has advised against your child taking gym, please advise your child's teacher immediately.

In order to participate in gym, your child will need the equipment specified on the school supply list.

Please ensure that all clothing bears the student's name.

Cyber-Safe

Periodically a member of the Winnipeg Police Service will attend École Belmont School to brief us on their program Cyber-Safe Program which covers the safety and security aspects of children's use of the Internet.
