WEVAS® - Working Effectively with Violent and Aggressive States
This course provides adults with the opportunity to develop a differentiated communication approach when working with children whose behaviour, interpersonal skills and ability to learn are negatively affected by their psychological states (Anxious, Agitated and Aggressive). These communication skills are used to guide children out of these problem states into competent ones. WEVAS® is an integral part of an overall plan to develop safe and caring environments. This course meets the requirements set forth by WEVAS Inc. for certification in WEVAS®. Please bring your meal, as there will not be enough of a break to eat out.

EMERGENCY FIRST AID AND LEVEL A CPR (
 for aiding ages 1 and up)
Invest two evenings, learn the skills to save a life! 
CPR, Level A:  The First Aider's Role:  Check, Call, Care; H.A.IN.E.S. Recover Position; Choking – Adult; Assisting with Medications: Angina and Heart Attack; Stroke' CPR – Adult, Deadly Bleeding.
Emergency First Aid includes preparing to respond, the EMS System, 'Check, Call, Care', airway emergencies, breathing and circulation emergencies, first aid for respiratory and cardiac arrest and wound care.
This Canadian Red Cross Certified Course is 8 hours long and meets 2015-16 standards.

Gender Diversity – Fill Your Rainbow Toolbox
Johnny plays My Little Pony and his favorite color is pink. Daisy loves building rockets when dressed like Spiderman. Is this okay? How do you talk to Johnny, Daisy, the other students, parents and educators about this? How do you support these students in the classroom? What is the correct terminology when addressing gender diversity? There are lots of questions and this course will provide you with the answers. Using books, videos, interactive activities and personal experience, Jackie will teach you the "language of acceptance" she uses regarding gender. You will learn how to incorporate specific strategies into your classroom to create safe and affirming environments for gender diverse students. You will find that your confidence as an educator will increase as you "fill your rainbow toolbox"

Fundamentals of Early Childhood Education
This course will introduce the fundamentals of Early Childhood Education as a career or profession. Suggested topics are as follows: Week 1 – Safety and Health; Week 2 – Learning Environment; Week 3 – Play-based Principle; Week 4 – Reggio-inspired Classroom; Week 5 – Dealing with Challenging Behaviours Among Children; Week 6 – Observing, Documenting, Reporting; Week 7 – Social and Guidance; Week 8- Culmination, Presentation, Awarding of Certificates. Each meeting will use the following learning strategies: teacher presentation, student presentation, group discussion, practical application of theories.

Well-Being in a Crazy World
In these demanding times it is sometimes challenging to focus on our well-being, which is rooted much deeper than just diet and exercise. Through this 8 week course, participants will explore well-being from a holistic approach and its connections to our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual lives. We will investigate methods to enhance our well-being, including fostering confidence, creativity and happiness in our lives.
Students are to bring a journal or sketchbook to class.
