Middle Years Learning
What Makes Middle Years unique?
In Seven Oaks, our Grades 6-8 students are part of Middle Years schools. Middle Years schools subscribe to a philosophy that one teacher is primary with that student, and teaches all “core” subjects (Mathematics, ELA, Science, Social Studies, Health, and French or Français). Physical Education, Band and Choral are part of the Middle Years education, but taught by our specialists in these areas.
The Middle Years philosophy strengthens the teacher-student relationship that supports and shapes the intellectual, physical, and socioemotional way students learn in these years. The methods, contexts, resources and supports that Middle Years teachers choose are determined by the needs of students, and so Middle Years teachers’ styles, attitudes and pacing will be different from those of Early Years or Senior Years educators. Middle Years teachers also have the flexibility to provide experiential learning opportunities and inquiry projects that incorporate several different curricular areas.
We try to offer as many opportunities as possible for our students to learn about themselves and their interests. All students will take part in Technology, Arts, and Sports options, such as;
- Soccer
- Woods
- Culinary
- Graphics
- Fiddle
- Hockey
Middle Years is a time of growth and engagement in learning for students. Seven Oaks School Division Middle Years communities are diverse, responsive, and inclusive. We understand and appreciate this time in our student’s education, and strive to work in partnership with families as we meet the needs of every young adolescent.
