Community Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (CATEP)
The Community Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (CATEP) began as a partnership between the University of Winnipeg Integrated B.Ed/BA Program, Seven Oaks and Winnipeg School Divisions.
This program provides Aboriginal Educational Assistants with the opportunity to complete the requirements for the Integrated B.Ed/BA while working on a full or part-time basis.
Candidates must be of Aboriginal descent (First Nations, Metis, Inuit) and employed in our division as Educational Assistants.
CATEP students work in their schools from September to April while attending classes part-time. From May to July they are released from the schools to attend university classes. The program takes a minimum of 6 years to complete and students will graduate with a Bachelor of Education and Arts degree. This program is meant to support those who have a passion for education and who aim to foster the development of children and teens. It allows participants to attain a university degree to become a certified teacher while working in a school as a Educational Assistant.

CATEP is committed to ensuring the success and long-term retention of participants. To that end a number of supports and services have been created to support our CATEP students. See below for further details.
