Pride Season is June to September!

Pride Season runs from June to September, a time when 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and allies come together to celebrate, reflect, and honour the resilience, creativity, and contributions of 2SLGBTQIA+ people. While most Pride events happen in the summer, many take place year-round in communities across the country.

In June, we celebrate Pride Month to honour diversity, promote inclusion, and support the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in living authentically and without fear of discrimination. It is also a reminder that challenges persist for 2SLGBTQIA+ people across the world. Discrimination, violence, and systemic barriers continue to affect 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals especially those whose experiences are shaped by intersecting identities such as race, ethnicity, religion, (dis)ability, age, or socioeconomic status.

Pride began as a movement for justice. In Canada, the first major demonstrations for 2SLGBTQIA+ rights took place in Ottawa and Vancouver in 1971. By 1973, cities like Montréal, Toronto, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and others were hosting their own Pride events.

To all Seven Oaks staff, thank you for your commitment to creating inclusive, welcoming spaces for all students, families, and colleagues. Let’s continue to uplift diverse voices, honour all identities, and stand together in solidarity not just during Pride Season, but every day.
