Questions & Answers

โ€‹Below you will find questions and answers submitted by the public.โ€‹

Q: Are we going to see more funding for more Met schools in the division?โ€‹
A: The division is exploring the establishment of a third Met School, likely as a satellite of West Kildonan Collegiate. We are looking at redirecting some of our budget and are also seeking some external funding.

Q: Will the division look at removing SRO's and use that funding to add additional teachers or EA's?โ€‹
A: The division is committed to continuing the SRO program. The division pays only a third of the cost of the program which is $57,300 for each of our 3 full-time SROs. The Province and Winnipeg Police pay the remainder. Costs include salary, benefits, administrative and support costs for the program and costs related to the police car each officer uses. Each officer serves 8 or 9 of our schools. By comparison we budget about $100,000 for a full-time teacher.โ€‹

Q: How is the division going to support students who may not have access to healthy nutritious meals at home?
A: The division provides nutrition programming at most schools and is also partnering with Second Harvest to provide food directly to families in Seven Oaks.

Q: How does the division plan to increase funding to the Anti-Racism initiative?โ€‹
A: โ€‹The division is currently devoting budget resources to the initiative supporting staff, instructional materials, research and policy development. That support is continuing for the 2021-2022 budget year.
