βI am Nishkewaasiiga'ed Ikwe (Shines Alone Woman) from the Makwa doodem (Bear Clan).
On my mom's side my family comes from 2 Ojibwe communities (Roseau River and Skownan First Nation, both located in Manitoba). I also have Metis ancestry from my dad's side as well as Polish, but I was born and raised in Winnipeg. I have attended schools in Winnipeg School Division One and graduated from the Faculty of Education at University of Winnipeg in 2018 (CATEP Grad).
I often identify myself as an Anishinaabe woman with Metis and Polish ancestry. I am also a mother to a young teen, and am an Early Year's & Middle Year's at Riverbend School in the Aniishinaabemowin Program, I am a pow wow dancer and teacher, drum and song carrier, and fitness enthusiast. I am an advocate for Indigenous education and issues of today and share my knowledge in any way that I can. One other thing I often like to share is my own story of empowerment through becoming a pow wow dancer and learning about the songs, dance, ceremonies, language, and other Indigenous teachings. I am the Kindergarten teacher in the Anishinaabemowin Program and the Language and Culture Learning Support Teacher for the program. This year, I will be βthe lead contact for Pow Wow Clubs in Early Years.
