Kaigan Olson & Hailey Peebles

Boozhoo! My name is Kaigan Olson and I am from Peguis First Nation. I am Ojibwe, Swampy Cree, and of the Otter clan. I am currently in the After-Degree Education program at the University of Winnipeg in the high school stream. I often spend my time attending and dancing at Powwows across Turtle Island, beading and sewing Indigenous crafts, playing video games, and finishing assignments for school. Miigwech!

Hello! My name is Hailey Peebles and I am from Winnipeg Manitoba.  I am an Oji-Cree female who is currently in 10th grade attending Maples Collegiate. I grew up in the foster care system, and I want to be able to make a positive change to the experiences children have within the time they are in the system.

Hear It From Us – Conversations with Indigenous Children in Care.

Kaigan and Hailey will be sharing experiences of Indigenous students in care and how we can work together towards learning more about, supporting, and celebrating our students' Indigenous identities. They will focus their session on age-appropriate conversations to have with, and about Indigenous children in care. Ryan Cook, a Learning Support Teacher at Maples Collegiate, will also be present during the session.
