For Evan Krosney, joining the Seven Oaks School Division Board of Trustees representing Ward 3 was a natural extension of his previous and ongoing work in the community.
An active voice for the West Kildonan community, Evan is Co-Chair of the Friends of West Kildonan Library Coalition, and an active volunteer with local residents' associations and community groups like Friends of Kildonan Park. He has been a vocal advocate for public education, having helped lead the fight in northwest Winnipeg against the provincial government's proposed Bill 64.
Evan is excited to step into his role. He is advocating to ensure class sizes in Seven Oaks are kept low and hopes to make a difference during critical hours after school programming while strengthening the schools' roots in the community. He's prioritizing implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action with respect to education alongside student leadership, with inclusivity and reconciliACTION being the way forward.
Evan hopes to set in motion long-term plans that go beyond his 4-year term, like longer term strategies to create purpose-built school expansions.
βThe most important thing to Evan is being a representative for the community and the folks who elected him. Evan understands community needs must be reflected in the School Board's work and classrooms. Evan's strong connection to the neighbourhood means bringing these needs forward and being a true voice for the community.
